Another String to my Bow

Yesterday I attended a crochet workshop at Sew Creative, Wroxham, and I had a BRILLIANT time! Rather happily, I picked up this new skill fairly quickly, and through out the day made a little lavender posy with a rose decoration, and started a Granny Square for which I have today bought more wool to make it into a blanket. A new craft that is easy to transport and will keep me entertained on those old commuter trains.

It’s always nice to add another skill to your repertoire – particularly a creative one, and even if it has not direct relation to your job. I always find that doing things that you enjoy, creating something that is beautiful and that you can be proud of gives you a great feeling of achievement – as though you can conquer the world! If only I wanted to 🙂

What next I wonder??

A Few Of My Favourite Things

So this is my first blog in relation to the Daily Post Challenge, let’s face it, I don’t blog very often anyway! Life just seems to get in the way….. Not to mention the fact that it would take longer for my laptop to load up than it would to actually write the post………

I thought it was an interesting choice of topic – one that could be interpreted in a number of ways. As per the hints in the post I tried to think of material possessions that were important to me. Would I run back into a burning building to save them? Or at least turn and grab them before I ran OUT of the burning building?!

I couldn’t think of any. I don’t have anything of sentimental value. I have a lot of STUFF don’t get me wrong, (I’m a shopper and I like new things), but nothing that is overly expensive or that has been passed down generation to generation.

♦ Just to clarify, of course I would make sure Boyfriend and any pets were safe!! ♦

So I tried to think outside of the box. What do I have that makes me feel happy? What’s my favourite way to spend an evening? And it came to me – the thing I love the most is my old, scruffy knitted blanket that I bought from an Oxfam stall at Leeds Festival in 2002 because I was FREEZING!!

You know the type, lots of mis-matched squares, all knitted by different people in one of the charity’s drives for something to sell at a festival. It cost me £5 and it improved the festival sleeping experience more than I could possibly even attempt to explain!

I love curling up under that blanket when it’s cold and dark outside, when the wind is howling and the rain splattering against the window, while I drink a hot, sugary cup of coffee and read my book (or my Kindle in these new technologically advanced days). That is what I look forward to when I know winter is on its way. That and my knitting of course!

But there is something exceptionally satisfying and comforting about being safely tucked up inside and knowing you don’t have to go outside again for a long while.

Amazingly, it’s 26°C outside as I write this………….. And still I sit and day-dream about my blanket!

as requested 🙂

Unpleasant Running Experiences………….

My first post in a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time again, and here I go kicking things off with a rant! I’m sorry, it just has to be said.

Now I know that my friends don’t do this, and I’ll bet 99.999% of people out there are far more considerate, so my apologies, this is not meant to offend, I just need to get this off my chest.

Please, please, PLEASE when walking along on the pavement with one or more friends, particularly when one or more of you are walking with a pushchair, suitcase, large dog, etc., or when CYCLING WITH A FRIEND SIDE BY SIDE ON THE PATH (yes that really happened to me today) please don’t take up the WHOLE path and push the innocent jogger (who has already moved to one side and is looking hot and knackered and in need of a lie-down) onto the road……….. It in’t nice, it isn’t fair and it isn’t safe! It’s very upsetting and stressful for the jogger who has to then jump in front of a car before the suitcase wheels over her foot or she gets knocked into the hedge.

And as for the WHITE VAN MAN LEERING AND BEEPING AS YOU’RE RUNNING ALONG – *collapses in the chair* – I have no words. I guess just thanks for the appreciation??

However, all was forgiven when an exceptionally polite lady stood to one side with her daughters on a narrow stretch and let me go huffing and puffing past, encouraging me with a smile!

To all the runners out there, I’m sure you’ve experienced similar, and I know there’s no point getting upset or angry – people will do what they want, when they want – but I would encourage you to keep smiling and thanking those who help. Who know’s, perhaps our friendly nods and words of appreciation (or just our red faces) will make someone think next time they see a lesser-spotted jogger, and they will clear some space for a fellow human being.

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
